How to Play! > Who Can Play? > When do the games begin? > Why play? > Where Are We Playing? > Get in the Game!
The Games We Play is a global literacy project that will connect children in grades 1-5 (ages 7 to 11) with other classrooms around the United States and the world with the goal of learning to appreciate the diversity of our cultures. In the first part of the project students will use their composition and writing skills to describe the games that they play during recess, at home, or in their neighborhood. Included in their description of the game should be an explanation of instructions and rules to the game as well.
In the second step of the project students will use their compositions to create a short 1-3 minute video (or slideshow) to share explaining the various games they play. These videos will be shared via Animoto, Youtube, or any other method and then shared with the other classrooms.
Students will then try to play the games of the other classes to see if the instructions are clear. Classrooms can then connect synchronously via Google Hangouts or Skype to ask clarifying questions and share the joys of what they have learned about each other. As an alternative to synchronous meetings classrooms can create a response video showing them playing the games the other have taught them to connect asynchronously.
Note: All coordination will be done through email between participating classrooms, teach me how to play blog postings, as well as (when available) synchronous meetings via Hangouts or Skype throughout the process.
